It is these everyday use items, from furniture to tapestry turned into objects de art that provided Edward Wormley critical acclaim as a pioneer and innovator of 20th century American Design. His creations are today some of the most sought after Mid Century Modern Artifacts, timeless in style. This 1964 world of understated elegance will be a splendid center of attention in any home, library or office.   Description: The Indiana based Dunbar Furniture Co. never automated the production processes, handcrafting each piece and this globe is no exception, with the walnut structural components and the horizon ring dovetailed from solid wood pieces.  Each leg of the base is capped in brass that compliments the full, brass meridian encompassing the large 16 inch diameter globe.  The orb is constructed of plastic with 12 paper map gores applied, a departure from it's earlier contemporaries that offered a glass orb but still radiates a warm, ambient glow when illuminated.  The switch on the cord allows an easy convenience of accessibility.  The base is 29 inches in height, 38 inches including the globe. Condition: The design artifact is well preserved with only minor imperfections, slight loss at the northern axis, some soiling towards the southern axis, and some very small light scuffs.  The base does have one leg that is not as tight as the others and two small chips in the legs.  The lighting components are fully functional.  Please review photographs.   The age of the Globe has been determined by the political borders displayed, which are as follows: Europe: It’s post WWII and the world is clearly in the grip of the Cold War where Germany is shown divided with East and West displaying separate capitals, Berlin in East Germany and Bonn in the West... What is now the Czech Republic and Slovakia is shown as one: Czechoslovakia. Yugoslavia is visible, which has meanwhile seized to exist. Independent countries of today such as Lithuania and Latvia are shown to be part of the former USSR. Middle East-Asia: United Arab Republic, a venture between Syria and Egypt from 1958-61 is clearly visible. Israel has replaced Palestine (1948). Laos, Cambodia and a divided North and South Vietnam are shown (1954).  Korea has been divided into North and South. The divisions another result of escalating Cold War tensions. Africa: Colonies including French West Africa, British and French Somaliland, French Equatorial Africa and the Angelo –Egyptian Sudan as well as the Belgian Congo cease to exist instead creating over 15 new independent countries (1960).  Central African Republic is shown and existed from 1953-63.  The Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland dissolve to become Malawi and Zambia as well as Tanganyika and Zanzibar have merged to form Tanzania (1964). Rhodesia is still shown as a British mandate but will gain it's independence in 1965. Due to size and assuring safe arrival, this artifact will be shipped in two boxes.
