A well preserved and exquisite c 1900 celestial globe Celestial spheres are not as common as terrestrial models as they had not been produced in the same volume. Their beauty and rarity has made them desirable collectables. Attractive colors of a blue horizon and white stars identifies the celestial skies as a delicate yet bold golden overlay displays zodiac and constellations in an elegant fashion. The bronze and copper base reflects superb Art Deco details. A stunning piece, reflecting artisan craftsman ship of the past. 12 individual paper gores had been hand applied on a plaster orb. The exceptional map is accentuated by a beautiful cartouche of the Atlas Globe Company. Little is known about the Globe maker. Atlas School Supply Company Globes have been found from the late 1800's to the turn of the Century. The globe making was outsourced to one of the great Chicago Globe makers of their time. Reviewing the map and details included, we believe this model was outsourced to either Andrews-CF Weber or Rand McNally. Diameter of the orb itself is about 12 inches, total height is approx.. 20 inches. A beautiful piece, showing minimal wear, some cosmetic restoration. Details are crisp, colors well preserved.
