A superb object de art combined with refined engineering. The gimbal mount, a classic design style of the 1960s and 70s, allows for one to tilt the sphere for better viewing. Fab clear acrylic meridians allow to calculate and rotate the heavenly skies, identifying zodiacs and constellations. Note the attractive deep brown black base, offering a minimalistic design of understated elegance.
The legend identifies stars and constellations, individual stars by size and also displays the Milky Way. The rich blue of the celestial provides a fine contrast to the light yellow stars. When illuminated one can view the constellations within intimate ambiance...
Description:
Diameter of the orb is about 9 inches with a total height of approximately 15 inches. The orb itself is mounted into a double, clear lucite meridian Lighting is functional. A date is not documented on the cartouche.It does identify to be made in Italy and sold in Paris, France. Language on the orb is French.
Condition:
With the exception of minor corrosion to the gimbal mount and scratches to the base, this model is exceptionally well preserved.
We have not been able to obtain any information about the Globe maker nor have we seen anything similar. The base is similar to the Munich Globe maker JRO, which existed for about 25 years post WW2. Language on the globe is in French, yet the sphere is marked to have been made in Italy. Which makes this celestial globe to be quite a mystery.
No doubt this stunning artifact will be a conversation starter wherever displayed!
