$595.00
Demonstrating the perfection of form and function, this splendid design piece is more than just a vintage illuminated Globe, it's a sophisticate artifact celebrating the rise of commercial Aviation
One may think of Howard Hughes devotion to the sophistication of TWA or the Glamour of PANAM.
With its superb American Modern Base, this globe is not only a vintage scientific instrument but also undeniably a fine piece of art.
This Copper-finished model is the rarest of all original airplane model, not even to be found in museums. Much less common than the bronze or chrome model. Exquisite, owned by very few discerning collectors, this artifact is extremely seldom to be found in auctions. As a matter of fact, in 12 years, this is our very first model to present.
The glass orb, covered with 12 individual, hand applied paper gores provides a perfect, warm and intimate atmosphere when illuminated.
Glass orbs were used for a short period as they were costly and labor intensive. Produced only from the mid 1930s to early 60's, they were quickly replaced by mass produced, more economical plastic models. Though no plastic illuminated globe provides the same warm, intimate glow a glass orb with paper map does.
A perfect merger of form and function.
