Everybody loves a globe bank! They are small enough to fit in any collection and the fill the gaps perfectly between your larger globes! The map on this J. Chein globe bank shows the world at the beginning of the end of colonial rule in Africa; 1959-60. Soon, independent African nations will spring up across the continent and European powers will largely retreat back to Europe. J.Chein, who manufactured this model, was mostly known for their variety of tin toys. Since the beginning of the company in the late 1900s, an assortment of Globes, in many variants and styles, has been part of their production. Like any toy manufacture, Ohio Art made a wide range of transportation - aviation - space exploration globes in the 1960's and 1970's. The orb is made of hollow spun tin with a lithographed map. It sits on a faux wood grain base. Diameter of the orb is about 4 inches with a total height (including base) of 6 inches. The globe is in good condition with just a few minor dings and surface rust; colors are brilliant, details crisp. The plug at the bottom is present but a little rusty.
