A beautifully vintage etched and printed map shows a world of yesteryear, including regions one can only read of in history books today. Central Australia, a state that existed for only a few years, from 1926 -31, is well documented on the continent of Australia. This artifact is a very playful way to introduce Geographical History… Even with extensive research, very little information can be found about the manufacture, the Geographic Educator Corporation. Located in Long Island City, NY, the company offered this Geo Bloc-Graphy World Puzzle and the Puzzle Globe, calling it “the invention of the century”. More likely the company became victim to the market crash of 1929, followed by the Great Depression. Produced for only two years, this masterpiece is the highlight of any collection, if not for its rarity, certainly for being a brilliant lesson in Geographical History and true entrepreneurial, innovative spirit. Description: This world is literary in pieces. The puzzle consists of 20 cubes, each side representing a part of a continent representing a map with countries and regions (as of 1927). All pieces are present; this is a rarely obtainable complete set. When assembled, the puzzle and box are about 19 inches by 24 inches in size. Wooden cubes are 1.5 inches by 1.5 inches, each side covered by an early print paper map. The box is made of very thick early fiberboard with a metal plate etched color print on the exterior, black and white world map in the interior of the top. Condition: Overall well preserved, considering this was a toy. All pieces are present, though small parts of printed map are missing here and there. Otherwise colors are rich, details crisp. The box has wear rubbing, soiling throughout with an old repair in form of tape keeping one corner together.
