An original objet d’art slated globe

An original objet d’art slated globe

$345.00
From the mid 1800’s to the 1960’s, slated globes were a popular tool for military and educational facilities to teach geography related subjects. The slate-like finish has the same properties as a chalk board, allowing drawing on it with chalk. However, this educational tool was quite expensive to acquire, not many schools could afford it. Resourceful and creative teachers would make their own. This is one of these “original” pieces. Consisting of a 1950’s Cram's Globe (note the retro styled numbers on the meridian), covered with hand painted chalk board material and mounted on what appears to be a baluster turned piece of wood which has a heavy cast iron machinery wheel as a base. Overall 15.5 inches tall, the slated globe itself has a diameter of 8 inches. A great testament to creativity, this “steampunk” looking model is certainly one of a kind objet d’art! Slate Globes are highly desirable collector’s pieces as these spheres are no longer produced. $345 — Item : OT511SLTN50S - SOLD
