Rare Cram's Terrestrial Globe; Faded Red Oceans

Rare Cram's Terrestrial Globe; Faded Red Oceans

$195.00

This handsome globe is hiding a secret past under its time dial! The globe sat in my office for a few months before I got around to giving it a proper cleaning. When I took it apart, I discovered that the globe used to have red oceans! The color most likely faded with sun exposure over the last 70 years. Cram’s made a number of exciting globes over the years, and are the only major globemaker to ever offer a red colorway. The last two photos show the red color under the time dial and what a non-faded version looks like.

Politically the map identifies the dawn of the Cold War Era. Israel is present (1948) Korea is not yet divided (1953).

Description: The 12 inch diameter orb is mounted into a solid maple, non-numeric half meridian, which is attached to a solid maple base. Land is displayed in beautiful bold colors while oceans are faded to a lovely silvery tan. Shipping routes and distances are show in red ink. Total height is about 17 inches.

Condition: Other than the color fading, it has been superbly maintained. This artifact is in great condition with minimal blemishes, and minor wear to the equator tape. The map is crisp and detailed as ever.
