$0.00
This model is an exquisite representation of the Mid Century Modern - Eames Design movement with its clean style, and sleek wooden base.
Designed by no other than Ed Wormley for Dunbar, this fantastic piece is an original American Modern artifact.
Globe maker Rand McNally had commissioned Dunbar in 1948 to design a globe base that would make a statement. No doubt it was a success!
The clean, minimalistic design offers a perfect cool contrast to the warm patina of the sphere. The understated elegance of minimalistic design of the base is authentic to the Space Age era and cradles a 16 inch diameter globe. The base is 29 inches tall, 38 inches including the globe. Sized perfectly to complement an office or library without being too dominant.
When illuminated, the orb provides an attractive warm glow.
Some minor imperfection to the map are only visible when illuminated, otherwise this design artifact has been exceptionally well maintained and is completely functional.
Politically one can view the cold war era, Israel has been created (1948) Korea has been divided into North and South (1953). A UAR is visible, a venture between Syria and Egypt which existed from only 1958-61.
