A magnificent 1949 Sea Serpent This is without a doubt one of the finest Globes Crams had ever produced. A fine Art Nouveau styled artifact, romanticizing the era of Nautical Explorers, sailing the seven seas, sharing tales of mystical ocean creatures…. This exceptional masterpiece is testament to the refined art of globe making. Golden colored paper gores have been hand-applied to a glass orb. The globe then is mounted into a cast iron Sea Serpent on a bed of waves with the tail fin holding it in place. When illuminated, the Sphere provides a wonderful, golden ambiance. Originally offered as “the Dolphin” (copies of the original catalog advertisement are included), this WW2 era globe is an exquisite piece of Art. Rarely obtainable, it can be viewed in museums, including the National Library of Austria. Being a desirable collector’s item, this globe is seldom available to be sold publicly or in auctions, especially in its exceptionally maintained condition. Oceans are in a golden yellow rather than the common blue. The mounting is in form of a sea serpent, made of cast iron with a golden – bronze finish. The serpent is attached to a fruitwood base. Lighting of the globe is functional and has a pull-chain. Diameter of the orb is 10.5 inches with a total height of about 13 inches. Exceptionally well preserved with minimal wear, mostly visible to the wood base. Minimal scuffing or soiling to the map and base. No corrosion or damage. Lighting is functional.
