This fine artifact documents the Space Race Era of USSR and USA landings and explorations on the moon. Luna and Apollo Landings are identified and marked accordingly. This lunar model by Raeths stands out with its exceptionally detailed map of the lunar surface. Exceptional map making skills are evident, showing elegantly detailed Craters and "oceans" (mare). Raeths had always been one of the most celebrated Globe makers as it produced some of the finest crafted pieces of its time. This Lunar Globe is no exception. The minimalistic design is a classic German Bauhaus masterpiece. A heavy bakelite base with faux woodgrain finish compliments the grey and golden warmth of the orb. 13 inches in diameter and about 16 inches tall, this moon is well preserved. Details are crisp, colors rich, minor rubbing in a few spots. The cartouche identifies the globe to be printed in 1976 and to be made in former East Germany!
