A splendid 1946 illuminated Glass Globe by Cram’s
Rather than the plastic globes of today, this heavy glass globe provides an enchanting warm glow when illuminated. The handsome base enhances a display of understated elegance. Simple yet sophisticated in style, displaying two cat metal Greco Roman styled statues holding the world.
The map offers rich Golden oceans rather than the more common green. The political display of this model is exceptionally rare, a specific glimps in time, 1946. World War 2 has just ended; global leaders are in intense negotiation to create new nations out of the ashes of a devastating war. Neither Pakistan (1947) nor Israel (1948) has yet been established though Germany and Japan have relinquished their occupations in Europe and China.
The unusual map and its handsome design make this artifact to be quite a desirable piece.
The 12 inch diameter globe is mounted into a cast metal cradle consisting of two statues, attached to a solid wooden base. Total height is 17 inches. The map is very clean, rich in color, crisp in detail. Some minor scuffmarks. Lighting is functional. Beautiful patina, especially when illuminated.
