German Volksglobus by Columbus c1928 A classic imperialistic piece - the map identifies colonies of European Empires throughout the world. It does so by outlining each colony with the same color as the occupying Country. For example, France is shown in yellow as is its colony French West Africa. Italian Somaliland is shown in the same orange as Italy. Effects of the treaty of Versailles are documented as the Austro Hungarian Empire has fallen and given way to the birth of new nations, such as Romania, Hungary, Yugoslavia and more. What was once the great Prussian Empire has now lost domain, as part of it belongs once again to an independent Poland. The short lived independence of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania between the two World Wars is also documented. The age of the globe has been identified by the political borders displayed: Persia, Constantinople, Central Australia, and Peking narrow the range to 1928 or 1929. Description: This medium sized globe is a simplified dowel style model yet still displays refined details on the mounting and base. The map is made from 12 individual coated paper gores plus two polar calottes over a plaster and pasteboard sphere. Brass mounting hardware atop a turned fruitwood base. Approx 14" Tall, 7.5" Diameter Condition: The globe is in near perfect condition with only slight scratches, age toning and minimal nicks to the map. There is one small vertical crease that cuts through the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. The base and hardware are flawless. The globe will ship for $18 within Europe and for $25 to North America. item #1016COLVOLK - $425
