A splendid 1936, nautical themed pre WW2 Arts & Craft movement Artifact with document.

$375.00
While the overall design is a fine representation of the Arts& Crafts movement, the map of the globe offers exquisite nautical details in addition to a fascinating pre WW2 map. Romanticizing the era of exploration, majestic Frigates and other ships of famous Explorers are displayed while a Mermaid and Poseidon surround a shell forming cartouche. Rich coloring emphasizes details and political borders. Some of the frigates displayed are historic, including Captain Cook’s Resolution and Columbus’ Santa Maria. A superb feast for the eye and the mind, this is an exceptionally rare piece in design and coloring.   Dubbed the “Nomad” by the manufacture Rand McNally, this brilliant masterpiece sold in 1936 for $10.00, the equivalent to a months’ salary at the time. Originally offered complete with Atlas. Unfortunately, we do not have the Atlas. However, you will receive a facsimile of the original advertisement for the artifact.   The plaster orb is covered with 12 individual, hand applied paper gores. The mounting is dowel-style and consisted of a chrome finished connector and a wooden, base. Diameter of the globe is 12 inches with a total height of about 16.5 inches. This is a very heavy globe.   In fine condition with less than age appropriate soiling. No loss of map but some rubbing (see photos). Some pitting to the chrome, age appropriate scuffing & soiling to the base.   The age of the artifact is based on political borders displayed and cross referenced with an original catalog advertisment A fine, sophisticated artifact.     $375           SKU#215RMC36NOM   Well packed this artifact will ship domestic for $35.00, world wide ( most countries) $65.00
