For your consideration is a petite desk globe circa 1930; the start of the Great Depression. Weber Costello had a reputation for producing high quality products and this elegant globe is no exception.

Description:

These mid-sized globes are my favorite, as they can fit just about anywhere and yet still make a big impact. The orb is made of pressed cardboard and features a full meridian. The sphere sits on a lovely wooden base that hints at the shape of an open book. The map is rich in color and crisp in details. Diameter of the orb is 8 inches and a total width (including horizon ring) of 10 inches. This beauty stands 12 inches tall.

Condition:

The globe is in good condition with only a few minor dings and scratches. All colors are bold and rich, and the illustrations are sharp and clear. Two seams have minor staining in the Indian Ocean as can be seen in the photos. The biggest issue is to the mount as one end has a small chip. The full meridian sits securely but loosely in the mount as well.

The very short lived Central Australia is documented (1926-31) and Istanbul has officially replaced Constantinople (1930) while Persia is still shown (changes to Iran in 1935).
