This elegant, Victorian styled Library Globe is a superb example of refined craftsmanship. It is this lost art is what elevated Rand McNally to be one of the great Chicago Globe makers of the late 1800's and throughout the early 20th century.
Attention to detail is evident through out, documenting refined engraving skills of the past. The unusual, slanted horizon ring adds sophistication and elegance to the artifact.
This globe offers an exceptionally detailed map, sharing the world of c 1926,. Well documented are metropolitan and cultural centers of the past, including the mysterious Constantinople and the short lived State of Central Australia (1926-31).

Description:
The plaster orb has a diameter of 18 inches and is covered with 12 individual, hand applied paper gores. The globe is mounted into a full meridian, which sits in a cradle with slanted horizon ring. Horizon Ring and base are made of wood with beautifully baluster turned and exquisite hand carved details. Attention to detail is evident.
Total height is 42 inches.
Condition:
Overall well preserved, this nearly 100 year old artifact does show its age. The re is paper missing to the horizon ring and the map on the orb itself shows some scuffing and restoration. The wooden base has a crack in one area but is stable. Please make sure to view photos, more photos available.
The age of the globe is based on political border displayed, which are as follows:
Europe is shown in its post WW1 borders. Austria and Hungarians are separated as per treaty of Versailles (1919), individual countries have risen from the former Austro-Hungarian Empire. Petrograd has become Leningrad (1924),
Mysterious Constantinople is visible, which became Istanbul in 1930. Also note the state of Central Australia, which existed only a few years, 1926-31.
