A 1940 Nautical themed Globe with black glass base
$365.00
This Rand McNally Indexed Terrestrial Art Globe offers exquisite nautical themed details. Romanticizing the era of exploration, majestic Frigates and other ships of famous Explorers are displayed as a Mermaid and Poseidon surround a shell forming cartouche. Rich coloring emphasizes details and political borders.
The cradle style base is made of black colored glass with deco details. It is a reflection of shortage on metal during World War 2 and the creativity of experiment with replacement materials. It also allows for the orb to be removed from its base for closer viewing.
The political borders displayed on this globe represent c 1940, an interesting time line highlighting the dawn of WWII. Austria and what used to be Czechoslovakia are shown to have fallen victim to the German expansion. Italian East Africa is also documented (1936-41).
This overall exceptionally well maintained model has minimal wear in form of soiling or wrinkles. The equatorial strip is only partial. The black glass base is in perfect condition.
A superb piece of history, of interest for WWII and nautical collectors alike!
