LB Kitchens was a very wealthy African American whose penchant for throwing lavish parties earned him the reputation of being the "Black Gatsby." Mr. Kitchens is seated in the middle of the photograph (second row, second from the left in the cover picture) looking off to the right. This Knights of Pythias came from a collection of his belongings that I discovered in his hometown in Central Texas.
The panoramic is unusual as it depicts a large group of African Americans in the early 1900's. Good photos from this period are hard to find especially one of this size.
The photo does have some damage but it does not diminish the impact of the piece. There is no glass in the frame and there are a few areas of paper loss around the edges as shown in the pictures.
