Incredibly Rare Advertising Globe for Universal Stoves and Ranges; Circa 1900
$645.00
I love these small globes! In addition to the great graphics and overall aesthetics, they are the perfect size to the fill the gaps between your larger globes! And this advertising piece is one of the rarest tin globes you could have in your collection.
Released by Chicago based Cribben & Sexton Company as a small coin bank to promote their line of stoves and ranges; there were much fewer of these produced than your standard globes. As a result, these rarely come up for sale.
The age of the globe is a little hard to pinpoint as there are no cities or countries labeled; most likely it is from right around 1900 though as the company was in full swing at that time. The graphics and production style also hint at this time period.
The orb is made of hollow spun tin with a lithographed map. The continents and oceans are labeled and major rivers are visible. "Universal Stoves and Ranges" is printed 3 colored letters in the Pacific Ocean. Orb features a black star over the South Pole and a coin slot near the North Pole. The globe sits in a beautifully decorated tin frame with a wreath design flanking the orb and the main text of the ad below. It reads: Save Your Money And Buy - UNIVERSAL STOVES and RANGES - Made By - Cribben & Sexton Company, Chicago. - Minneapolis - Denver - Wichita - San Francisco - Portland. Diameter of the orb is 2 inches with a total height (including base) of 4 inches.
The globe is in excellent condition with very minor wear around the equator; colors are brilliant and the text is sharp.
Well packed, the globe will ship domestically for $9.00 and internationally for $18.00.
