Quite a novelty, this cast metal lamp with globe, displaying the political borders of 1930. The hollow tin globe appears to be made by J.Chein, who was known for their variety of tin toys. Since the beginning of the company in the late 1900's, an assortment of tin globes, in many variants and styles, has been part of their production. The cast iron mount reflects classic Art Deco details. Idealite, the manufacture is embossed into the frame. Idealite and J.Chein had a long term working relationship and co-produced quite a variety of "globe –lamps" from the 1920's up to the early 1960s. The globe is made of hollow tin with a simplified lithographed legend and 6" in diameter. The lamp itself is made of cast iron with nice art deco details. Total height of the lamp is about 12.5 inches. It is functional. The model is in good condition with a wonderfully aged patina. Some minor soiling and discoloration is visible. The cast metal lamp is in good condition and functional, some chipping of paint. No cracks or corrosion. The map of this fab little lamp globe identifies Central Australia, a state in existence for only a few years, 1926-31. Manchuria in China has not yet been occupied by Japan, which occurred in 1931. Thus the political borders displayed echo the year 1930. If you are looking for something eye-catching original and unusual, this is a find for you!
