This 1967 (date on cartouche) mechanical Satellite Orbit Demonstrator offers several functions. Equipped with an electrical motor, the following motion can be demonstrated:
Rotation of Earth
Orbit of satellite
Rotation of Earth and orbiting satellite at the same time.
A fine educational artifact and unique conversation starter, this model is quite a collector’s item, seldom to be found in working condition. This same model globe is on display at the Globe Museum in Vienna, and the Whipple Museum at Cambridge University.
The globe is mounted and rotates on a Synchron motor. A second motor on top of the half meridian rotates the satellite. The power switch allows you to choose rotation of Earth, satellite, or both in motion at the same time. The globe itself is a physical political relief model, showing only out lines of political borders but physical characteristics of area. Base, meridian and satellite are made of gold metal; the globe is made of pasteboard. Note the details on the satellite! Diameter of the Globe is 12 inches with a total height of about 22.5 inches.
The model is in exceptional, museum grade condition. Minimal wear to the frame, showing resedue from labels. The sphere is exceptionally well preserved.
