1968 magnificent dated celestial globe by Denoyer Geppert
This 12 inch Denoyer-Geppert Celestial Globe is a superb example of the mid-century modern design style, combined with outstanding craftsmanship. Minimalistic, refined features provide this artifact with an exquisite aesthetic, making it a desirable object de art as much as an original piece of the Apollo Space Age era. The wooden horizon ring functions as a satellite orbit demonstrator, providing a fine contrast to the bold, blue orb representing the celestial skies. The celestial map is based on the original map made in the 1930’s for Hammond, and designed by RNR Stubbs, a commander of the Royal Navy. Commander Stubbs tragically died during a mine sweeping mission in WW2 . This artifact was a limited produced model with an actual print date of 1968 shown on the orb. Being quite desirable, this model can also be found at the Globe Museum of the National Library of Austria. This is an exquisite opportunity to view the stars, nebulas, the Milky way and celestial skies ….in style! Description: The 12 inch diameter orb is covered with 12 individual, hand applied paper gores representing the celestial skies. The globe is mounted into a metal full meridian with copper-bronze accents. The meridian is sitting in a metal fork, which is attached to a solid maple base. The horizon ring also consists of solid maple. The globe is removable. The map identifies constellations, nebulas, stars and more. Total height is about 17 inches. Total diameter, including horizon ring is also about 17 inches. Condition: Very well preserved, details are crisp, colors bold.
