Minimalistic 1940s Hammonds Celestial Globe for Denoyer Geppert

Minimalistic 1940s Hammonds Celestial Globe for Denoyer Geppert

$498.00
A rare model, produced in the 1930s or early 1940s edited by Commander Stubbs RNR (Royal Navy) for the educational market. Commander Stubbs worked on several star and celestial related projects with Hammonds, including educational publications, focused on celestial and navigational subjects. However, WW2 interrupted the co-operation, tragically Stubbs was killed in the war on a mine sweeping mission. The exquisite celestial map of this fine artifact is not ornate as common celestial maps which display zodiacs in a more figural manner. Instead the map is strictly scientific with straight connecting lines. Combined with a minimalistic, hollow spun metal base, this model offers a clean, modern design of understated elegance. The 12 inch diameter globe is covered with 12 individual hand applied paper gores, representing the celestial map and mounted onto a simple, yet refined metal base.Total height is about 17 inches. The cartouche has a Denoyer Geppert overlay, which Hammonds worked closely in manufacturing this superb celestial object. A fine conversation starter, it will awake curiosity in any setting! $498 — Item : D712CELHAM40 - SOLD
