The map of this exceptionally rare artifact displays Imperial powerhouses of the past and their colonies. The Austro Hungarian Empire has reached far into the Balkans as the Ottoman Empire is documented to have reached well into Africa and around the Red Sea. The Kaiser is reigning in the German Reich as is the Czar in Russia. Newest Human technology, including Under Water telegraph cable and Rail road lines are displayed. It is the peaceful industrial period before the infamous assassination of Franz Ferdinand, the excuse to WW1 and the end of Empires… Dietrich Reimers was one of the most prolific German Globe makers of the 19th and early 20th century. In 1852 the firm of Carl Adami & Co, Berlin was taken over by the publishing house Dietrich Reimer (1818-1899) who employed the talents of the highly innovative Heinrich Kiepert, a well known Geographer and Cartographer at the time. This foundation and partnership establish the company of Dietrich Reimer Verlag as one of the very best within the globe making industry. To this day Reimers Globes are highly prized among collectors. The typical German attribute of attention to detail and refined map making skills are clearly demonstrated on this model. Note the dated cartouche, an uncommon feature among terrestrial spheres. Description: The plaster and paste board orb is covered with 12 individual, hand applied paper gores and two polar carlottes. Diameter is about 13 inches. The map is rich in color and detail. Mounted into a brass numeric stamped half meridian, which is attached to a beautiful cast iron, victorian or Art Nouveau styled (very heavy) base. Total height of this stately model is 24 inches inches. Condition: This is an exceptionally well preserved artifact. Slight soiling and scuffs to the orb perhaps indicative of the harsh environment it survived during a particularly tough era in Germany WW1 AND WW2), lending to this globe’s substantial character.  Colors are rich, details crisp. The meridian is in very good condition, showing some aging, no corrosion, cracks or other damage. The base has been well persevered but does show minor discoloration and corrosion, no cracks or damage. A sophisticated model for sophisticated collectors. Well packed this fine artifact will ship domestic for $40.00, please inquire for international rates. $998     SKU#  1114REIMER11
