Superb attention to detail by the globe maker is evident throughout the map with its ever so delicate engraving. An elegant masterpiece of a long lost craft, sure to be perfect for the collector of the rarely obtainable An exceptionally well preserved map allows catching a glimpse into historic past. Mr Livingston has yet to explore Central Africa; it is simply tilted "unexplored region". The southern Polar region is marked: "Supposed Antarctic Continent as seen by Wilkes and others 1840" Indeed an exceptional documentation of mans quest to conquer our earth. The 9 inch orb is made of wood, plaster and covered with individual paper gores representing the map, ever so delicately engraved and hand colored. Mounted into a brass full meridian, cradled in a base of wood with elegantly, baluster turned legs and horizon ring. Total height of this model is 14 inches. Most of the wear has occurred to the horizon ring. Minimal wear in form of scuffing, soiling or wrinkles on the map. Exceptionally well maintained for its age! Merriam and Moore of Troy, New York published globes as such for only two years 1850 & 1851. The following year the company changed its cartouche (logo) to Merriam, Moore & Co.
