Representing the political borders of c 1961, this Physigraphic Contour Relief Globe by Weber Costello was one of the last models the company ever produced. Weber Costello discontinued manufacturing its own Globes in the early 1960s. Featuring a classic, minimalistic Eames styled base made of teak, this model is a fascinating piece of the Cold War era and a fine example of Mid-Century Modern design. It could be straight from the set of Mad Men.. The map on the orb displays political borders including the Syria-Egyptian Unity as the United Arab Republic (1958-61). In addition a physical map is present, documenting land elevation. The legend is crisp in detail and vivid in color. Minor soiling, wrinkling and scuffmarks are visible. The base is in very good condition, some minor corrosion to the metal connector and finial.
