Celebrating the early days of human advancement in flight, the map documents early aviation achievements across the Atlantic Ocean, including flight dates and distance in mileage: Graf Zeppelin Lakehurst to Lakehurst across the Atlantic (August 8 -20th 1929, 20,000miles) Hindenburg Zeppelin Route May 6-9, 1936 Lindberg, New York – Paris , May 20th, 21st, 1927. Technical advancement is furthermore celebrated by documenting Short Wave Radio Stations and their call letters around the world as of c 1936, prior to World War 2. Though this highly desirable terrestrial globe is not just a vintage scientific instrument but also an undeniable piece of art. The base represents an exceptional fine representation of the Machine Age movement of what would become the most collected design among globe aficionados, the airplane. Fluid, minimalistic lines of the wings compliment a bullet shaped body, representing speed of an airplane. In spite of not being in perfect condition, this is an exquisite piece to be part of any aviation or globe collection. If you are looking for the rarely obtainable, this artifact is for you. Description: The 12” diameter sphere is made of pasteboard. Representing a map of c 1935, the legend identifies various aviation routes, including Graf Zeppelin, Hindenburg, Lindbergh flight to Paris and more.. The half meridian is made of pot metal and mounted onto a base representing a Deco styled Airplane, finished in a chrome type finish. Total height is about 14.5 inches. Condition: The globe is in good condition. The map does have a bit of scuffing but still allows to view details in a crisp manner. Colors are bold and rich, the base is well preserved with minor pitting to the chrome like finish. Please see photos for details. The age of the globe has been determined by political display, which is as follows: Germany has not yet annexed Austria and occupied Czechoslovakia (1938-39). Italian East Africa is not yet visible but marked as italian occupancy (1936-41). Truly a magnificent artifact, sharing an important moment in time.
