A rare 1936 American Machine Age Statement
A rare 1936 American Machine Age Statement
$585.00
Until post WW1, the American Style was to follow the traditional design of the European Mother countries. However, influenced by the Art Deco Movement of France and the clean Geometric Bauhaus Development in Germany, US Design began to have a direction of its own, the American Modern aka Machine Age. Tear Drop and Bullet –shaped aerodynamic designs were not just used on forms of transportation but daily used objects, from vacuum cleaners to cars…and the mounting of this globe.
Consisting of a classic streamline designed metal base, this artifact offers an exquisite ambiance of the American Machine Age.
This fine Replogle illuminated model stands out, combining form and function at its best. Rarely to be found intact due to its fragile design, this depression era piece is a true museum artifact. The same model is part of a collection of the National Library of Austria Globe Museum. There are no records of any sales in public auction houses as this model is rarely to be offered for acquisition.
The orb consists of pasteboard and offers a map displaying political borders of pre WW2 1936 and identifying Short Wave Radio Stations active within that era. The orb shows its age in form of minor scuffing and soiling.
The base consists of cast metal in a superb machine age design representing a bullet train? Finished in brass which shows some wear over the years. No corrosion or cracks. Diameter of the orb is 10 inches; total width of the object is about 11.5 inches with a height of 13 inches.
