A handsome 1930 Rand McNally gentleman’s globe
A fine example of superb craftsmanship, this model offers a sophisticated mounting of ornate cast iron and fruitwood, the rich mahogany finish of the wood and warm coloring of the map adds elegance to this Globe. Fine details of the mapping ensures for hours of interesting studies! One interesting note: Central Australia is visible, which had a short existence of only 5 years.Quite an exceptional Globe, it would make a fine addition in a Gentleman’s desk or Library.
The 12 inch diameter globe itself is covered with 12 individual paper gores over a plaster orb.
The mounting consists of a cast iron arm with ornate Victorian details, which rests on an elegant baluster turned fruitwood base in a rich mahogany finish. Total height of this piece is 21.4 inches.
In fine condition with less than age appropriate soiling. No Fading, loss of map or scuffing. Colors are vivid, details crisp, some uneven aging of the patina. The mounting is very good condition though some of the shellac has worn over the years.
Istanbul is also displayed in its former name Constantinople, Manchuria in China has not yet been renamed Manchuokuo. Central Australia is visible.
