An early Cram’s terrestrial Globe with attractive Deco mounting
George F. Cram Company began in-house production of Globes circa 1932. This globe's political borders place this significant model to be one of the first known pieces from their new production line.
This handsome art deco model features a cast iron base and meridian with pasteboard construction of the orb, giving it a substantial feel. The globes mapping is representative of the year 1931 as Arabia is displayed (pre-Saudi) and Central Australia is displayed making it first and last known globes made by Cram to show these.
The pasteboard orb is covered with twelve printed, hand mounted gores. The orb and cast iron meridian are cradled in a cast iron base which allows the orb to slide-rotate changing the axis angle. The globes total ht is approximately 16.5 inches tall and 13.5 inches wide overall with meridian..
The globes condition is very good with only minimal wear and some fading to the mapping. There are no cracks or breaks to the cast iron components.
