A c1925 Rand McNally Art Nouveau styled terrestrial Globe
A fine example of superb craftsmanship, this model offers an exceptional, heavy cast-iron base with ornate Art Nouveau details. The map speaks of Empires of an era long gone and showing metropolitan centers of the past like Constantinople and even still Christiana (changed 1926 to Oslo).
The Bolshevik Revolution is in full swing and even though Russia is still documented it is just a few months before it succeeded to its new name for the next 75 years ; USSR.
Bold colorings and slightly simplified map clearly identifies for this artifact to be a student model. More likely a child of affluent status had been privately educated with this terrestrial globe as this was quite a costly model.
Note the ornate decorative details to the base, from the eagle claws as feet, each holding an earth to the ornately integrated initials of the Globe maker Rand McNally = RMN.
A fine decorative, object de art, offering rich history of a specific moment in time.
Description:
The globe itself is covered with 12 individual, hand applied paper gores over a plaster orb. It is mounted dowel style onto the cast iron base. The base offers very ornate details as the map displays a simplified legend in warm, bold colors. Diameter of the globe is 8 inches with a total height of 15 inches.
Exceptionally well preserved and clean with some minor scuffing throughout. Colors are rich, details crisp.
