German Tin Globe Circa 1920's

German Tin Globe Circa 1920's

$115.00

I love these small tin globes! In addition to the great graphics and overall aesthetics, they are the perfect size to the fill the gaps between the larger globes in your collection.

Germany in the 1920s, 30s and 40s produced a number of brilliant tin globes for use as chocolate containers, pencil sharpeners or as parts of elaborate tin toys. This is one of the more elegant globes that was produced in that era. I’ve seen a few places stating that this style was made for a doll house but I do not believe that to be true.

The age of the globe is a little hard to pinpoint but the presence of Persia does mean that it was made no later than 1935.

The orb is made of hollow spun tin with a lithographed map. It is mounted into a thin metal half meridian and base. Diameter of the orb is about 1.75 inches with a total height (including base) of 3.5 inches.

The globe is in good condition with no spots of surface rust. There are a few nicks and dings as you would expect from a globe of this age. Colors are brilliant and the text is sharp.
