A printmaker, painter, sculptor and teacher, Dean Meeker taught in the Art Department of the University of Wisconsin at Madison from 1946 to 1992. He was born in Orchard, Colorado, and studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, Northwestern University, and the University of Wisconsin.
Exhibition venues included the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Corcoran Museum, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.
