Rare Globe Pencil Sharpener Circa 1930 / Made in Germany / Vintage World Globe
I love these small globe pencil sharpeners! In addition to the great graphics and overall aesthetics, they are the perfect size to the fill the gaps between your larger globes!
Germany in the 1920s, 30s and 40s produced a number of brilliant tin globes for use as chocolate containers, pencil sharpeners or as parts of elaborate tin toys. This is one of the more elegant pencil sharpeners that was produced in that era.
The age of the globe is a little hard to pinpoint but the presence of Persia does mean that it was made no later than 1935. The map does throw a few curve balls though as Hawaii is still labeled as the Sandwich Islands and St. Petersburg is labeled Pedersburg.
The orb is made of hollow spun tin with a lithographed map. It is mounted into a thin metal half meridian and sits atop a heavy pot metal base that houses the pencil sharpener. Diameter of the orb is about 1.75 inches with a total height (including base) of 3.5 inches.
The globe is in good condition with no spots of surface rust. There are several scrapes at the poles from the sharp point on the mounting that holds it the orb in place. Colors are brilliant and the text is sharp.
Well packed, this artifact will ship domestic for $9.00, international shipping is $24.00.
